Introduction

The Division of Vascular Biology is a multidisciplinary collection of investigators with a common interest in understanding the function and pathology of the blood vessels in the body. The vascular system of the body comprises the largest integrated component of the cardiovascular system and diseases of the vasculature are a leading cause of death and disability in our Western society. The research of the Division of Vascular Biology focuses on the integrated behavior of blood vessels, the special circulations of the body as well as the structural, cellular and molecular basis underlying blood vessel functions. Within the Division multidisciplinary collaboration and mentorship of trainees is encouraged and fostered to maximize scientific exchange of ideas, development of new technology and translation of new knowledge into treatments, diagnostic tests and preventive measures for the patient.
