GRADUATE TRAINING |
|
Investigators in the Cardiovascular Research Institute participate in a wide variety of graduate training programs, ranging from the broad-based multi-departmental Medical Sciences program in the College of Medicine to department-based curricula in the Colleges of Veterinary Medicine, Education, Engineering, Science and Agriculture. In addition, several interdisciplinary training programs focus on forefront areas of modern biology. The 67 cardiovascular scientists within the Health Science Center and Texas A&M University interact closely through shared research grants, co-authorship on scientific publications, seminars, journal clubs and team-taught graduate courses. Consequently, cardiovascular researchers from several academic departments are usually represented on a graduate students advisory committee. Moreover, given the breadth of expertise in the Cardiovascular Research Institute, students are likely to find an investigator not serving on their committee who can help them overcome obstacles to progress in their research efforts. In addition to the Cardiovascular Forum, a weekly seminar series that attracts some of the best cardiovascular scientists in the nation, the Cardiovascular Research Institute also sponsors an annual scientific meeting of CVRI faculty and trainees.
